Plagiarism Policy

Jurnal Ilmiah Farmasi Simplisia (JIFS) is committed to maintaining academic integrity and publication ethics. Plagiarism, in any form, is considered unacceptable and is handled in accordance with the journal's Publication Ethics policy.

1. Plagiarism Screening

All submitted manuscripts may be screened using Turnitin or other appropriate plagiarism-detection software before entering the peer-review process. The overall similarity index must not exceed 20%.

The similarity index is used as an initial screening indicator and does not, by itself, determine whether plagiarism has occurred. The editorial team evaluates similarity reports contextually, considering the nature, source, and extent of textual overlap, including citations, quotations, references, and commonly used technical terminology.

2. Forms of Plagiarism

JIFS considers the following practices to constitute potential forms of plagiarism or publication misconduct:

Direct plagiarism: Using another person's words, ideas, data, or other intellectual work without appropriate acknowledgment.

Mosaic plagiarism: Combining text or ideas from multiple sources without adequate attribution or appropriate paraphrasing.

Improper paraphrasing: Rewriting another person's work without proper citation or presenting the ideas as one's own.

Self-plagiarism: Reusing substantial portions of one's previously published work without appropriate citation or disclosure.

Duplicate publication: Submitting or publishing substantially overlapping work in more than one journal without proper disclosure or justification.

All suspected cases are assessed individually, taking into account the relevant scholarly and ethical context.

3. Editorial Actions

Manuscripts with a similarity index exceeding 20% may be returned to the authors for revision or rejected, depending on the nature and extent of the similarities. Manuscripts with a similarity index of 20% or less may also be rejected if the editorial team identifies evidence of plagiarism or other forms of publication misconduct.

Where suspected plagiarism or related misconduct is identified, the editorial team may request clarification from the authors, require revisions, reject the manuscript, or take other appropriate action in accordance with the journal's Publication Ethics policy.

If plagiarism is identified after publication, JIFS will investigate the matter and take appropriate corrective action, which may include publishing a correction, issuing an expression of concern, or retracting the article, depending on the seriousness of the case and in accordance with applicable publication ethics guidelines.

4. Authors' Responsibilities

Authors are responsible for ensuring that their manuscripts are original, that all sources are appropriately cited, and that any reused material is properly acknowledged and used in accordance with applicable copyright and licensing requirements.

Authors must not submit manuscripts that have been published previously or are under consideration by another journal, except where explicitly permitted by the journal and appropriately disclosed.

5. Editorial Responsibility

The editorial team is responsible for conducting plagiarism screening, evaluating similarity reports fairly and consistently, and handling suspected cases confidentially and objectively. Editorial decisions are based on the evidence available, the seriousness of the suspected misconduct, and the journal's publication ethics standards.

JIFS follows recognized publication ethics principles and may refer to the guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) when handling suspected plagiarism and related publication misconduct.
